FALCO-GLOBAL
The FALCO project started as a European collaboration with a focus on EU member states and associated countries. The burden of SUD is high in Europe, so this focus is justified. However, the burden of SUD is even higher in some other regions of the world (see e.g. https://doi.org/10.1016/S2215-0366(18)30337-7).
In 2026, we therefore launched the FALCO-GLOBAL initiative with the aim to establish a global network focused on MT for SUD. Not only the prevalence and disease burden of SUD, but also music cultures and music therapy traditions, as well as SUD rehabilitation in general, vary greatly across countries and regions of the world. Understanding these variations will be vital to understand potential heterogeneity of treatment effects.
